Embracing Humility and Service This Advent

Read in your Bible: Mark 10:45; Philippians 2:5-8

As we journey through Advent, reflecting on the life of Jesus brings a fresh perspective to our work. In Mark 10:45, we see the heart of Christ's mission: "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

In Philippians 2:5-8, Paul encourages us to have the same mindset as Christ, who, though He was God, humbled Himself, taking on the form of a servant. This example challenges us to embody humility and a spirit of service in our daily professional lives.

Advent reminds us that Jesus came into the world in the most humble way—a baby born in a manger—and lived a life marked by service and sacrifice. In the workplace, we are called to mirror His example, setting aside self-interest to prioritize the needs of others.

When we humbly serve others, we reflect Christ’s love and make His presence known. A kind word to a struggling colleague, going the extra mile for a client, or simply listening with compassion can transform ordinary tasks into acts of worship.

Action

Choose one colleague or client to serve intentionally this week. Look for ways to demonstrate God's grace—offering assistance, encouragement, or simply showing kindness.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, the ultimate example of humility and service. Teach me to follow His example in my work. Help me to see my work as a way to serve You and those around me. Amen.
