Ministering Grace and Love at Work
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13 (NIV)
Corrie ten Boom’s story of forgiveness is one of the most remarkable examples of ministering grace and love. After enduring the horrors of Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she lost her sister Betsie, Corrie dedicated her life to sharing God’s message of forgiveness. At one of her speaking engagements in post-war Germany, a former prison guard from Ravensbrück approached her, seeking forgiveness for his role in her suffering. Though her initial reaction was one of pain and resistance, Corrie prayed for strength and extended her hand in forgiveness. In that moment, she demonstrated the power of God’s love to heal and restore, even in the face of unimaginable hurt.
In our workplaces, we encounter people with diverse temperaments, challenges, and perspectives. It is inevitable that misunderstandings, grievances, or tensions will arise. Colossians 3:13 reminds us of a critical principle for these moments: bear with each other. This means extending patience, compassion, and forgiveness, just as Christ has done for us.
We may not face circumstances as dire as Corrie ten Boom's, but we often encounter situations in the workplace where extending grace and love is challenging. It might be dealing with an unfair boss, forgiving a coworker who wronged us, or offering support to someone in emotional or professional distress. How can we, like Corrie, minister grace and love in these moments?
Challenge
This week, ask God to reveal ways you can extend grace and love in your workplace. Whether it is choosing forgiveness over resentment, speaking words of encouragement to someone struggling, or meeting a practical need, let His love guide your actions. Remember that ministering grace often means going beyond what is comfortable to show Christ’s love in unexpected ways.
Pray
Lord, thank You for the grace and love You have shown me through Jesus Christ. Help me to forgive when it is hard, to love when it is inconvenient, and to act as Your light in every situation. May my actions glorify You and draw others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
