Trust Again – A Path to Collaboration and Growth

Devotional week 27

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

— Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

Let’s be honest: trusting people at work is not easy. Maybe you have been burned before. Someone promised to help and didn’t show up, or a team project fell apart because someone dropped the ball. It is natural to want to do everything yourself so you don’t get hurt again.

But what if trust is not just a risk? What if it is actually a calling?

God made us to work together. No one can do it all alone, even if we try. Trust is the glue that holds teams together and helps us grow. But here’s the thing: our trust shouldn’t start with people, it should start with God.

When we put our trust in Him first, we are not just relying on our judgment or past experiences. We are saying, “God, I believe You’re in control. I believe You can guide me, protect me, and help me make wise choices, even when I feel nervous about trusting others.”

Trusting God first changes everything. It takes the pressure off us to have all the answers or to always be on guard. It opens our hearts to see people the way God sees them, not as threats, but as fellow travelers on the journey. Even when it feels risky, God can give us the courage to take small steps of trust. He can help us forgive past hurts, try again, and build new partnerships.

When we trust God, we are not ignoring the reality that people sometimes fail us. Instead, we’re choosing to believe that God is bigger than our fears and disappointments. He can use even our failures to teach us, grow us, and bring us closer to others.

So, as you go through your workday, remember: you don’t have to do it all alone. Trust God first. Ask Him for wisdom and courage. Then, take a step, maybe a small one toward trusting someone else. You might be surprised at how God shows up, bringing healing, new opportunities, and stronger teams than you ever imagined.

Trust is hard, but you don’t have to do it alone. God is with you, guiding every step. Start small, and let Him show you the way.

Challenge

You don’t have to trust everyone completely right away. Start small:

Pray: Tell God where you’ve been hurt. Ask Him to help you let go of fear.

Try: Give someone a chance to help you with a task, even if it’s just a little thing.

Notice: Pay attention to how it feels to let go, even just a bit. Did you see God working in that moment?

Prayer

God, I admit it is hard to trust sometimes. Please heal my heart and help me trust You first. Show me how to trust others, too, so we can work together and honor You. Amen.
