Missional Living: Bringing Christ into the Workplace

Read in your Bible: John 1:14; Matthew 28:18-20

As we draw closer to Christmas, many of us find ourselves in quieter offices or enjoying shorter workdays. These moments of pause present a unique opportunity to reflect on the incredible mission we celebrate this season—God sending His Son into the world.

John 1:14 reminds us, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” Jesus entered our reality to bring reconciliation, hope, and salvation. His mission was to love, restore, and fulfil God’s plan to redeem His creation. " The Message states, "The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighbourhood." In our context, we could say that the word became flesh and blood and moved into the workplace. "As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you," said Jesus. (John 20:21 (NLT)). We can be that Christian colleague or co-student who represents Jesus so others can see who He is.

This Advent season reminds us that we, too, are part of God’s mission. As followers of Christ, we are commissioned to carry His message wherever we are, including the offices, classrooms, or communities where we spend our days. Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 calls us to make disciples of all nations—starting with the colleagues, clients, and neighbors we encounter daily.

As we celebrate the birth of Christ, let us embrace the privilege of being His light-bearers in every sphere of life. Just as Jesus came to dwell among us, we are sent to carry His light into our workplaces and beyond, sharing the good news with our words and our actions.

Action

Use this shorter work week to share your faith at work intentionally. Whether through a kind gesture, an encouraging word, or thoughtful actions, let others see Jesus' hope and love in you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus to dwell among us and to reconcile us to You. As we enter this Christmas week, help me to reflect Your love and mission in my workplace, even in the most straightforward interactions. Give me boldness, wisdom, and grace to carry Your light into every conversation and action. Amen.
