Faith and Work: Reflecting on the Year and Trusting God for What’s Ahead
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." (Colossians 3:23)
As we look back with gratitude and move forward in faith, we are invited to reflect on how God has been present in every aspect of our lives—our families, communities, and especially our workplaces. It’s a time to give thanks for the blessings we’ve experienced, acknowledge the lessons we’ve learned, and recognise the challenges we’ve overcome.
For many, the workplace has been the stage where much of this journey has unfolded. Work is not just a task we perform; it is a space where God can shape us, teach us, and use us as His witnesses. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Take a moment to think about the ways God has been present in your work this year. Were there moments when you felt His guidance? Times when ethical challenges tested your integrity? Or perhaps, you discovered new ways to bring the light of the Gospel into your workplace?
As we step into a new year, let’s carry forward this awareness of God’s presence. Let us approach new opportunities and challenges with faith, hope, and a renewed commitment to align our work with His purpose.
Challenge
This week, set aside time to write down three things:
A blessing at work you’re grateful for this past year.
A challenge that taught you an important lesson.
One way you want to integrate your faith into your work more intentionally in the new year.
Pray over this list and ask God to guide your steps in the months ahead.
Pray
Heavenly Father,
As I reflect on this past year, I thank You for Your guidance, provision, and presence in every moment. Thank You for the lessons I’ve learned, the growth I’ve experienced, and the opportunities to reflect Your love in my workplace.
As I enter the new year, help me to walk by faith, trusting in Your plans and seeking to align my work with Your purpose. Strengthen me to face challenges with integrity and to embrace opportunities with a heart committed to serving You. May my life and work bring glory to Your name. Amen.
