Representing Christ at Work: How Your Actions Reflect Christ

Devotional week 5

"We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God." – 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

It was a Friday evening, and I was staring at my computer, feeling defeated. I had made a big mistake on a project for an important client. My oversight meant delays for them, and it was too late to fix it before the weekend.

The next morning, I made a difficult call to the client. I owned up to my mistake, apologized sincerely, and promised to prioritize the project and have it ready by Monday. To soften the blow, I offered to forgo my fee. Their initial response was not surprising—they were upset. Hanging up, I prayed silently, asking God for wisdom and grace to handle the situation.

By Monday afternoon, I delivered the corrected project, ensuring every detail was flawless. To my surprise, the client’s tone had shifted. They not only thanked me but insisted on paying in full, appreciating my honesty and commitment to resolving the issue. That moment taught me something important: even in our missteps, how we respond can show others who Christ is.

You see, as followers of Christ, we are not just employees, entrepreneurs, or students—we are His ambassadors. Wherever we work or serve, we are representatives of His Kingdom. In Acts 1:8, Jesus calls us His witnesses, empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out this mission. Like a diplomat who embodies the values of their home country, we are called to reflect Christ’s integrity, humility, and love in everything we do.

Think about it like this: a diplomat represents their country with honor and respect. In the same way, we represent Christ in our workplaces. That means the way we treat people, handle problems and make decisions matters. Even in tough moments—or when we’ve made mistakes—how we respond can be a testimony to His love and grace.

Challenge

This week, take a moment to think about how you’re representing Christ at work. When things don’t go as planned or you’re under pressure, ask yourself: Am I showing His character?

Prayer

Lord, help me to be a good ambassador for You at work. Give me wisdom, love, and strength to handle every situation with integrity and grace. Amen.
