Walking by faith

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8  (NIV)

In the Bible, we are called to walk by faith, not by sight. This truth hit me while reflecting on my time as an educator in a school for the blind. Watching students navigate their world with a cane or guide dog reminded me of 2 Corinthians 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight." Despite their challenges, these students moved forward with faith—faith in their guide, their surroundings, and faith in the journey.

I did not refer to myself as a Christian leader, but in hindsight, perhaps I was. I was the students’ vehicle. They had to have faith that I would safely bring them to their destination. While I was walking with the students, they were taking a leap of faith. I have never thought about this before in this way, but the students were like the disciples of Jesus. They walked with Jesus by faith and not by sight.

As I walked with them, I realised I was unknowingly living out Biblical principles. I saw I was a vessel for God’s work, as Jesus guided His disciples. The students had to trust me, just as we are called to trust Jesus as we walk through life.

As Micah 6:8 reminds us, we have the chance to walk humbly, show love and mercy, and act justly in our workplaces, homes, and communities. Every interaction is an opportunity to lead like Jesus. Imagine how many lives we can touch by showing love, kindness, and faith—no matter where we are.

While it seems incredulous how a workplace can be a point of evangelism, we must think about where Jesus sought out his disciples and where Jesus preached. Christian leadership comes in many different forms, indeed.

Reflect

How can you intentionally lead like Jesus in your daily interactions?

Pray

Lord, thank You for walking beside me, even when I don’t see the path clearly. Help me to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Guide my steps so I may reflect Your love and lead others by faith, just as You have led me. Amen.
